As December and January drifts by with low temperatures and snow here in Denmark, my thoughts often drift back towards the winter back in 2009. Back then I chose to travel to the other side of our planet in the search for some breathtaking scenery and tricky trout. My childhood friend and I had 5 weeks to explore the lakes and back waters in the southern island of New Zealand.

It wasn't always easy or fun to catch trout and we had to step out of our comfort zone and develop new techniques and adapt to the challenging environment, but at the end we both grew as fly fishermen and as visitors on this journey.
